DRESS GUIDELINES

Women

You will want casual clothes most of the time on your trip. We recommend one nicer outfit in case your team attends church. See your trip packing list for specific notes about what weather to expect and how to pack accordingly.

  • Tops must have a modest neckline. They should not be overly thin or tight. Do not wear styles that expose your midriff or lower back. You may wear sleeveless shirts, but not camis (except as a layering piece under something else). The part of the shirt that covers your shoulder should be at least two inches wide.

  • Pants, capris, skirts, and shorts are all acceptable. No leggings except for travel days. Shorts should come to your fingertips when standing with your arms loosely by your side. No shorts for attending church. Special note: in Thailand, you will need styles that come below the knee for teaching days.

  • Pack comfortable shoes and/or sandals. Remember that you will be on your feet a lot.

  • Avoid clothing with statements, graphics, or advertisements that could be offensive. Keep in mind that things don't always translate well.

  • Bring a modest swimsuit and swim shorts (no bare midriff) for warm-weather trips.

  • Jewelry is fine, but please don’t take anything expensive.

  • No tattoos that portray offensive content may be visible. Offensive content includes images that are sexual in nature; demeaning toward a particular race, ethnicity, gender, or religion; demonic; or easily misconstrued to fit one of those categories. Many Asian cultures consider it extremely disrespectful to have a tattoo that depicts their religious figures (Buddha, Mohammad, etc.).

  • No excessive body piercings. A couple of tasteful earrings or one small nose stud piercing is acceptable. Other piercings must be removed during the trip.
