05/17/2022 COVID Update: Ethiopia is a fairly easy country to work with as far as covid entry requirements. You have four options for entry:
- A negative PCR test taken no more than 72 hrs before departure
- A rapid antigen test taken no more than 24 hrs before departure
- Proof of vaccination
- Proof of recovery within the last 90 days
As long as you meet one of these requirements no quarantine period is required.
Safety Situation: There has been unrest in the northern Tigray region of Ethiopia since 2020 (actually, the conflict dates back for centuries, but this recent flare up has been ongoing for about 2 years). The team will be working in southern Ethiopia, nowhere near the conflict. None of the problems have affected the southern part of the country and we don’t expect that to change, but we will continue monitoring the situation.
Team Activities
We would like to invite you on an adventure that will take you to the town of Hawassa, a small lake town in the beautiful country of Ethiopia. This adventure will give you the chance to share love, joy, hope, and belonging with over one hundred beautiful kids who live in a trio of orphanages. Each child has a unique story – from health complications to poverty or family dysfunction – but in the children’s home they are each other’s family.
You will be welcomed into Ethiopian culture as you participate in a week of activities designed to give you the chance to share messages of Christ’s redemptive love in tangible ways with these precious children. And you will find the perspective that comes only from experiencing life alongside kids who have been through immense difficulties and yet find a deep joy in the love of Jesus.
